Karen will help you navigate the setup, the ways to organize, the pitfalls and opportunities that Zoom offers as a platform for teaching dance, synchronously and asynchronously. We will address how to support your students in this new arena, what the benefits might be to you and to them, and we will also point out what does not work in Zoom, saving you hours of frustration.

In this webinar session, Dancemaker App for Remote Learning, the app co-creator, Barry Blumenfeld, and Ana Nery Fragoso, Director of Dance, Office of Arts and Special Projects at New York City Department of Education, offer a tutorial on how to use the Dancemaker App as both a teacher and as a student, followed by a sharing of curriculum created by Ana that utilizes the app. The Dancemaker App was created by the Dance Education Lab of the 92nd St Y to encourage dance making using the principles of Laban Movement Analysis. It can be used by any age.

Explore ways that you can adapt your dance class for the virtual environment using Google Classroom specifically in the Pre-K – Grade 5 environment but applicable to all, including private studios and non-profits. Andrew will share his experience and work arounds that he has put in place to be able to reach 525 elementary school students a week. Organizing materials, adapting lessons plans, pros and cons of synchronous and asynchronous classes, use of video, google slides, and assignments to deliver content and curriculum driven instruction will be discussed.
