A Message from NDEO's Executive Director & President

In April of 2025, NDEO's Executive Director, Susan McGreevy-Nichols announced her retirement.  Please read below for a message from both Susan, and NDEO's President, Julie Pentz, regarding her retirement.  NDEO thanks Sue for her years of service, and visionary leadership, and we wish her well as she steps into this next chapter of her journey!

Dear NDEO Members, Friends, and Colleagues,

It is with mixed emotions that I announce my retirement as Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Dance Education Organization as of July 1, 2025. It has been a glorious experience heading the organization and certainly is the high point of my professional life. After 13 years of service as ED/CEO, I am ready to step away from the demands and pace of running a national organization.

Since I came to NDEO in 2012, we have accomplished much, mainly because of a culture of shared leadership between myself and the staff. During my tenure as Executive Director, NDEO's revenue has grown from approximately $600,000 to nearly $1.7 million. Our membership numbers have doubled, and all core programs-including the National Conference, OPDI, and NHSDA have experienced significant growth in both participation and revenue. I know that the staff will continue to build on this growth as they drive the organization forward into the next era. The world may feel chaotic at present, particularly in the arts and education sectors, but we have faced many challenges in the last several years, and I am confident that the organization will continue to thrive.

Regards, Susan McGreevy-Nichols

NDEO ED/CEO May 2012 - June 2025

---------------------------------------------

Dear NDEO Members,

Following the announcement from our Executive Director, I want to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude and warmest congratulations to Sue as she prepares for her retirement, effective June 30, 2025.

For the past 12 years, Sue has led NDEO with extraordinary dedication, vision, and compassion. Her leadership has guided our organization through significant growth and change, elevating NDEO's national and international presence and strengthening our commitment to dance education across all sectors. Sue's unwavering belief in the power of dance and education has touched the lives of countless members, students, and educators, and her legacy will be felt for years to come.

To continue to support NDEO growth, the NDEO Board of Directors has voted to initiate a national search for our next Executive Director. I want to assure you that thoughtful planning and transparency will guide each step forward. The organization remains strong and well-positioned for the future. The Board will be appointing an Interim Executive Director to ensure a smooth transition.

For now, please join me in celebrating Sue's incredible service and in thanking her for her leadership, tireless advocacy, and the lasting impact she has made on this organization and the field of dance education.
